Children’s Weaving Workshop
with Sandra McAllister

A Special O'Malley Series Workshop for Children aged 7 - 12 years.

Inspired by Jane O’Malley’s weaving practice, this two-hour workshop invites children to discover the creative possibilities of weaving through colour, texture and pattern.

As part of The Shared Studio, a building-wide exhibition exploring the shared life and studio of Tony and Jane O’Malley in Callan, children will spend time looking at the exhibition and gathering inspiration from the colours, artworks and materials around them. They will then be introduced to the basics of weaving, experimenting with different yarns and materials and selecting their own colours to create a small woven piece to take home.

A relaxed, hands-on workshop encouraging children to look, explore, make and develop their own creative ideas through the art of weaving.

About the artist:

Sandra McAllister is a multimedia artist and art facilitator with over ten years’ experience delivering creative workshops for children, families and diverse communities. Working primarily across textile and print, her practice explores the creative and restorative possibilities of making.

Inspired by processes of mending, self-care, memory and storytelling, Sandra is interested in how art can create spaces for connection, reflection and shared experiences. Through hands-on, accessible workshops, she encourages participants to explore colour, texture and materials while developing their own ideas and creative responses.

Her approach is playful, collaborative and rooted in the belief that making can be a way of remembering, connecting and celebrating personal stories.
