Tour at Butler Gallery and Offsite Event in Talbots Inch
Join us for a Talbot’s Inch Walking Tour - an offsite event set in the historic model village of Talbot’s Inch. Commissioned in 1906 by philanthropist Countess Lady Desart, the village stands as a unique example of early 20th-century social and architectural experimentation, designed and built to house local woodworkers and other manual labourers in a dignified, community-oriented setting.
The tour will include informal reflections and guided conversations with invited guests along the walking route, creating space for personal stories, historical insights, and spontaneous contributions from participants and local residents.
The meeting point is Butler Gallery at 11am, where artist Jan McCullough will give an introduction to her current exhibition I Took a Hammer in My Hand. Jan will include her research into a pair of roof models, included in the Maquette series, based on the distinctive roofs and architecture of Talbot’s Inch.
Free minibus transport will be provided from Butler Gallery, and will return to the gallery at the end of the tour. Please dress warmly for an outdoor walking tour.
This is a free event, but places are very limited, please only book a place if you are sure to attend.
