- Thursday 29th June 1 - 2pm
Kian Benson Bailes will discuss his practice and his current research into materials and processes specific to rural Ireland and embodied experiences in landscape. His new body of work combines traditional forms of storytelling and oral histories into new sculptural experiments using sound and ideas of an embodied experience through sound and its intersection with sculpture as a medium.
Kian looks specifically at moments of embodiment through an evolving visual palette that he has assembled based on experiences and memories of county Sligo as well as more recent experiences. He is currently incorporating sculptural processes such as wood carving, ceramics, weaving, metalwork, and field recordings into these experiments and producing works based on historical folklore, invented folk songs and alternative queer histories.
Kian Benson Bailes graduated from IADT with a BA in visual arts practice. His current practice is interested in queer culture and history and their intersection with institutions and bodies of authority through a multi-media art practice that uses collage, sculpture, installation and digital processes.
