Handwork Skills with Straw, Hay, Rushes, and Other Natural Fibres

Join us for a 4-week Adult Art Course with Monica Fleming on handwork skills with straw, hay, rushes and other natural fibres.

In this hands-on course, participants will learn to identify plants that are perfect for creative projects, discover the habitats they grow in, and explore sustainable harvesting and preparation techniques. Traditional weaving techniques will be taught, with opportunities to create a range of beautiful and practical handmade items.

About the Artist:

Monica Fleming is a horticulturist and a tutor with Kilkenny Community Education, teaching Horticulture as well as Crafts using Natural Materials. She is enthusiastic about helping people relate to the beauty of nature and the living world around them. Monica Fleming has worked with plants for many years, in nature conservation, landscaping and horticulture, as well as making various crafts with natural materials.

This course is funded by the Kilkenny and Carlow Education and Training Board and is subsidised for participants.
