'Forest Bathing' and Ceramics Workshop

A Youth Ecology Art Workshop at Butler Gallery

Explore the calming effects of nature through the sensory experience of 'forest bathing', and the hands-on artistic expression of ceramics.

After a guided stroll along Kilkenny's Canal Walk we will take inspiration from what we have seen, heard, smelled and touched to create unique ceramic tiles. This will be a relaxed and playful workshop, exploring natural patterns, textures and imagery through drawing and sculpting clay. This activity examines mindfulness, creativity, and an appreciation for nature, offering new ways to explore how nature can influence our artistic choices.

The workshop offers young people the chance to work with and learn from professional artists, no previous experience is necessary.

'Forest bathing' or 'shinrin-yoku' is the art of taking time to connect with the forest, absorbing all it has to offer through all the senses - sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste. You can learn more about this form of ecotherapy on the Tree Council of Ireland's website here.

Youth Ecology Art is a programme for young people ages 13 to 17 at Butler Gallery. All activities are free and the programme is delivered with inclusion at its core.
