Behind the Scenes:
Creating access to the Butler Gallery Collection

  • Arrow Wednesday 21st August

FREE EVENT TO CELEBRATE HERITAGE WEEK

Join us for a Behind the Scenes Talk: Creating access to the Butler Gallery Collection.

Photographer Tony Murray will demonstrate the process behind the digitisation of our important Collection.

This lunchtime event will also include input from Collections Registrar Ann Chumbley on the careful handling of artwork and Niamh Twomey will share examples of sensory boxes that have been specifically created to encourage full access to works in the Collection.

Tony Murray is an Associate Member of the Irish Professional Photographers Association and runs Murray Imaging Studios from The Atrium in Naas, Co. Kildare. Tony has been systematically photographing works in the Butler Gallery Collection for digitisation of the collection and use on our website.

Ann Chumbley is the Collections Registrar and has responsibility for the care and management of the Butler Gallery collection. She has 30 years+ experience working as a Registrar and Collections Manager in National and regional museums both in Ireland and the UK.

Niamh Twomey is the Collection Assistant. Niamh has a particular interest in creating gateways of engagement in the arts through sensory responses. She uses her skills to evaluate an artwork and create tools to assist the audience in engaging with the work.
