About the Artist
Blaise Smith is a figurative painter who has exhibited widely in Ireland and abroad, best recognized for his realist landscapes, portraits, and still lives. He has had numerous solo shows including The Still Life Paintings of Blaise Smith, a solo exhibition in 2021 at Butler Gallery, curated by Anna O’Sullivan, Butler Gallery Director and Curator. His work is held in many Public and Private Collections and since 2015, he is a full member of the Royal Hibernian Academy and will have a show in the RHA Ashford Gallery in September 2023.
Blaise will focus his attention on the work shown above, from Butler Gallery’s Permanent Collection. The work will be on view for the evening and you will hear about how the painting was constructed- it’s composition, painting technique and why the artist chose to stand in a field in Bennetsbridge for the same two weeks every year from 2002 to 2004 to paint what is in some ways an unremarkable shed.
