What is Acouscenic Listening practice?

The body is affected by sound in a myriad of ways including; physiologically, psychologically and behaviorally. When we listen attentively, we listen with and to our bodies, sound touches the listening social body causing concretely felt intensities or sensations before the mind cognizes. Acouscenic Listening is a sonically engaged sound art-based practice, researched and developed by artist Sean Taylor, and incorporates the mindful activity of directing our receptive and conscious attention to the phenomenology of sounds.

This 2-hour Acouscenic Listening workshop hosted by Sean Taylor will focus on the study of listening, creative sound-walking and the meditative practices of Tai Chi and Qigong. The workshop is intended to enhance participant’s perception of sound and silence, offering a unique approach for situated soundscapes, as well as offering movement/sound/and creative listening strategies. These strategies are designed to enhance our skills in mindfulness, listening, attuning to place, body and ear as instruments of creativity and well-being. Participants will practice techniques that help to release stress, and to quiet and nurture themselves through energy exercises and listening meditations. This workshop is open to all creative practitioners and members of the public who are interested in exploring Acouscenic Listening and Creative Soundwalking as a creative tool.
