Drawing together multi-disciplinary practitioners, Mark's work is the result of intensive collaboration with a rolling cast of individuals. These projects span a wide range of mediums including performance, sculpture, drawing, video and sound and often result in exhibitions, public gatherings and large scale performances.
During the 4-week residency Mark will focus on researching and developing a new collaborative performance work. The initial starting point for this work is to examine and interpret the natural world through the ancient technology of the voice (both human and non-human). Mark will explore how the creative process can be used as a tool to create an ‘extreme present’ from which spontaneous interactions can occur between humans and non-humans. These ‘present’ activities will include repeated physical practices in the body, such as tuning into the natural frequencies found in plant and animal life through deep listening and reinterpreting birdsong and inaudible language through vocals and song.
