About: Rachel Burke is a Kilkenny based visual artist and a member of the Butler Gallery Artist Panel. Identity and placement in one's environment are key elements in her painting. Working primarily with acrylic inks on un-primed canvas or wood, Rachel uses dip pens and brushes to build up a layered image. Rural landscapes painted on abstract backgrounds overlaid with backwards writings and patterns create a sense of nostalgia throughout her work. Through observation and engagement in rural landscapes, Rachel's work reflects on environmental concerns and addresses our relationship to the natural world. Connecting with nature in her artwork enables Rachel deepen her connection with ‘self’.
