'Landscapes in Bloom' Sip n' Sketch Workshop
with Artist Rachel Burke

  • Arrow 28th March 2024

Join us for a special 'Landscapes in Bloom' Sip n' Sketch workshop on Thursday 28th March from 5.45 – 7.45pm and explore your inner creativity in a fun and informal art workshop accompanied by a glass of prosecco, wine or soft drink.

This Spring themed workshop will take inspiration from Landscape by May Guinness (part of our permanent collection) and William Wordsworth's lyric poem "I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud" (also called "Daffodils").

Under the guidance of Artist Rachel Burke, participants will paint their own spring landscape using mixed media - acrylic paints, acrylic inks, watercolours and drawing materials.

No experience is necessary. All materials will be provided.

Cost: €50pp, including your tipple of choice!

20% discount available for Friends of Butler Gallery, please email [email protected] for details prior to purchase.

We hope to host this workshop in the Butler Gallery garden, however, if the weather isn't ideal the workshop will take place indoors.

Snippet from "I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud" by William Wordsworth

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

About the Artist: Rachel Burke is a Kilkenny based visual artist and a member of the Butler Gallery Artist Panel. Identity and placement in one's environment are key elements in her painting. Working primarily with acrylic inks on un-primed canvas or wood, Rachel uses dip pens and brushes to build up a layered image. Rural landscapes painted on abstract backgrounds overlaid with backwards writings and patterns create a sense of nostalgia throughout her work. Through observation and engagement in rural landscapes, Rachel's work reflects on environmental concerns and addresses our relationship to the natural world. Connecting with nature in her artwork enables Rachel deepen her connection with ‘self’.

This a fundraising event for Butler Gallery. As a registered charity we appreciate your support.
