Butler Gallery was delighted to welcome Fintin Kelly to its artist-in-residence programme for September 2023. During his residency, Fintin developed a new body of work, inspired by the museum building and the Butler Gallery collection. An open studio event was hosted following Fintin's residency, showing the artistic process and artworks in varying stages of development.

Fintin Kelly's Artist Residency is part of a supported, inclusive, accessible artist led residency programme at Butler Gallery for which a selected artist from KCAT Arts Centre has the opportunity to develop a new or existing body of work in the museum context.

About the Artist

Fintin Kelly’s passion for visual art goes back over twenty years. He is also a highly experienced actor and founding member of the Equinox theatre company at the KCAT Arts Centre. In 2017 Fintin joined the KCAT studio where he now dedicates himself to visual art practice. In the time since, he has shown in several of exhibitions, including Unhindered at Kilkenny Art Festival (2018) and The Engagement Project (2019) which was shown in several galleries, including Linenhall Arts Centre Castlebar, Farmleigh house Dublin, and Uillinn: West Cork Arts Centre Skibbereen. His work is featured in the publication: The Engagement Project KCAT 2014-2020.

Fintin Kelly's Artist-in-Residence was supported by the Arts Council of Ireland.
